COMMON QUESTIONS

How often should I get a facial?

Facials are a skincare treatment that can help improve the appearance and health of your skin.

The frequency of getting a facial depends on your individual skin care needs and concerns, as well as factors such as skin type, age, and lifestyle. In general, it is recommended to get a facial every 3-6 weeks, as this is the regeneration cycle of our skin.

However, it's always best to consult with our Beauty Therapist who can assess your skin and recommend a personalized facial schedule that works for you.

They can take into account any specific skin concerns you may have, such as acne or anti-aging, and create a customized treatment plan to help you. Additionally, maintaining good skincare habits and a healthy lifestyle can also contribute to the overall health and appearance of your skin between facials. So, it is important to regularly provide the necessary attention and care that your skin needs to be healthy and look its best.

Should you wash your face before a facial?

When it comes to getting a facial, many people aren't sure about the proper protocol before their appointment. It is best to come to your facial with a clean slate, however it is not at all necessary, as your therapist will cleanse your face as part of your facial.

Can I wear make up after a facial?

In general, it is recommended to avoid wearing any makeup immediately after a facial.

This will allow your skin to breathe and rehydrate properly without any interference from makeup. It is best to wait at least several hours before applying makeup, and ideally until the following day. This will ensure that any redness has subsided and that the products used during the facial have fully absorbed into your skin.

Additionally, be sure to use clean makeup brushes or applicators when applying makeup on your face after a facial. This can prevent any bacteria or debris from the brushes transferring to your newly cleaned skin. It is also important to follow any specific aftercare instructions provided by our Beauty therapist or your skincare professional, as certain facial treatments may require additional downtime before applying makeup.

So while it is tempting to apply makeup immediately after a facial, it is best to wait several hours or until the next day before doing so.

Can I shower after my facial?

In our facials we use moisturisers and vitamin serums, so it is probably best to wait a few hours after your facial before showering to ensure the products have time to work on your skin.

How can I restore collagen in my face?

Collagen is a vital protein for healthy and youthful-looking skin. There are several ways to restore collagen in your face:

  1. Incorporating collagen-boosting foods in your diet such as leafy greens, berries, nuts, eggs and citrus fruits.

    2. Taking a collagen supplement.

    3. Applying skincare products that contain collagen-boosting ingredients such as retinol, vitamin C, and peptides.4. Undergoing cosmetic procedures like laser treatments or micro-needling which stimulate collagen production in the skin.

It is important to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new supplements or undergoing cosmetic procedures. Additionally, protecting your skin from the sun's harmful UV rays by using sunscreen and avoiding excessive exposure can also prevent collagen breakdown in the first place.

What foods are highest in collagen?

Collagen is a protein that is naturally found in the body and plays an important role in skin elasticity, joint health, and bone strength.

Some of the foods that are high in collagen include bone broth, chicken skin, fish, beef, and pork. Other sources of collagen include eggs, shellfish, and some types of berries. Incorporating these foods into your diet may help increase collagen production in the body and improve overall health.

Can I use my private health insurance for the facial?

Our facial FLOW is claimable yes, as it is a remedial facial massage that also treats the neck and shoulders. The perfect antidote for shoulder, TMJ/jaw pain, neck pain, and tension headaches. It also incorporates lymphatic drainage for the head and neck to increase flow and reduce puffiness.

What should I not do after a facial?

After receiving a facial, it's important to take care of your skin properly in order to maintain the benefits of the treatment. Here are some things you should avoid doing after a facial:

1. Do not touch your face with dirty hands.

2. Avoid exposing your skin to direct sunlight immediately after the treatment.

3. Do not use harsh exfoliants or scrubs for at least 48 hours after the facial.

4. Avoid sweating excessively or engaging in strenuous exercise for the rest of the day after your facial.

5. Avoid applying makeup immediately after your facial.

6. Do not use any products that contain harsh chemicals, retinoids, or AHA/BHA for at least 24 hours after the treatment.

Following these guidelines can help you prolong the benefits of your facial and maintain healthy, glowing skin.

Is it ok to squeeze blackheads?

Blackheads are a common skin issue that can be frustrating to deal with. It is generally not recommended to squeeze blackheads, as this can lead to further irritation and damage to the skin. Moreover, squeezing blackheads can cause them to become infected, leaving the skin vulnerable to more acne breakouts. It is best to seek the advice of a dermatologist or skincare professional for safe and effective methods for removing blackheads.

Should you drink a lot of water after a facial?

Yes, it is recommended to drink plenty of water after a facial treatment as it helps to keep your skin hydrated and maintain its moisture balance. Water also helps to flush out toxins from the body which can have a positive effect on your skin's health and appearance.

Does facial massage help wrinkles?

Facial massage has become a popular beauty treatment for improving skin health and reducing the signs of aging. While there is no scientific evidence to suggest that facial massage can directly reduce wrinkles, it may help to improve overall skin health by increasing blood flow and promoting lymphatic drainage.

Additionally, according to some experts, facial massage can help to improve muscle tone and prevent sagging skin, which may in turn reduce the appearance of wrinkles over time.

However, it is important to note that facial massage should not be relied upon as the sole method for reducing wrinkles and other signs of aging. In addition to facial massage, individuals should also take steps to protect their skin from sun damage and incorporate a skincare routine that includes moisturising and using products that contain anti-aging ingredients such as retinol or vitamin C. A healthy diet, regular exercise and avoiding smoking can also help to improve skin health and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

What should you avoid before and after a facial?

To ensure the best results from your facial treatment, there are certain things that you should avoid before and after.

Before a facial, you should avoid using any exfoliating or harsh products the morning of your appointment. You should also avoid waxing or shaving your face for at least 24-48 hours prior to the facial and refrain from using any skincare products that may irritate your skin, such as retinoids or benzoyl peroxide.

After a facial, you should avoid exposing your skin to direct sunlight for at least 24 hours. You should also avoid applying makeup or other skincare products for at least 2-4 hours after your facial treatment to allow your skin to fully absorb the benefits of the products used during your facial.

Additionally, it's recommended to avoid touching your face or picking at any blemishes for the first few days after a facial as this can lead to irritation and possibly undo the benefits of your treatment.

It is also important to stay hydrated after your facial and keep your skin moisturised to maintain the results of your facial treatment.
