Pregnancy Massage
We offer pregnancy and postnatal massage in our Point Cook clinic.
While we do not call ourselves a pregnancy spa, our massage therapists provide a soothing and nurturing massage for pregnant women, to ensure you feel at ease, rested and taken care of.
For the comfort of both mum and bub, we perform pregnancy massage in a side-lying position and use pillows for support during the treatment. We also incorporate aromatherapy into this treatment by using the scented balm and burn essential oils, so you can truly relax and unwind.

Common Questions
Can I have a remedial massage when pregnant?
Yes! Pregnancy massage can help with the aches and pains that accompany pregnancy. Sore lower back, achy legs, tired feet, and tight muscles. Making a human is hard work! So a pregnancy massage is also time for mama to relax and have some me-time, and rest a little.
How is pregnancy massage done?
We do not use massage tables with holes for your belly or cushions as we believe this can increase strain on ligaments, create muscle tension and cause harm to soft tissue, and therefore increase back pain and joint pain. That is why we perform the treatment and relaxation massage in a side-lying position, using a pillow between the knees, and a pillow to cuddle, so mum feels secure and supported.
Will pregnancy massage induce labor?
We do not believe so however, there is such a thing as an induction massage, we do not offer this specific type of massage at our clinic. But we feel that a calming soothing massage for pregnancy can benefit the body for labour.
What side should a pregnant woman lay on during a massage?
Providing mum is comfortable, when treating side-lying we treat both sides. Half way through the treatment we will ask you to turn over.
Is pregnancy massage covered by private health insurance?
Yes! As it is a remedial treatment, pregnancy massage can be claimed with your private health insurance, so all you have to do is pay is the gap.

Can I have a pregnancy massage close to my due date?

When is the best time to get a pregnancy massage?
Women can begin massage therapy with utmost care at any point in their pregnancy – during any trimester, whether it be first, second, or third by a trained pregnancy massage therapists.
Pregnancy Massage Through the Trimesters
Massage and the first trimester
As the baby is not so large that it is placing pressure on internal structures, or utero-abdominal ligaments it is safe for mum to lay on her back and tummy for the massage on the massage table. When the baby is bigger, pregnancy massage is done side-lying, which is also offered if mum prefers this position. The low back is always supported by placing a bolster under the knees if laying on the back, or between the knees if side-lying.
Massage and the second trimester
During the second trimester the baby may grow up to 36cm, and can place strain on the pelvis and lower back, joints, and legs, causing pain. Throughout the second trimester, our massage therapists perform the treatment and relaxation massage in a side-lying position, using a pillow between the knees, and a pillow to cuddle, so mum feels secure and supported.
Massage and the third trimester
Throughout the third trimester the levels of the hormone relaxin increase in preparation for birth by increasing flexibility in pelvic bones. This can cause pelvic instability, and for this reason, we always recommend pregnant women also consult an osteopath for a check-up. This is a great time for remedial massage, foot massage, and deep tissue massage for its healing benefits and stress relief.
We also offer post-natal massage
Postnatal massage, also known as postpartum massage, is a form of massage therapy that focuses on promoting recovery and well-being in the period following childbirth.
It offers a range of potential benefits for new mothers as they transition through the postpartum period. Here are some benefits of postnatal massage:
Postnatal massage can help relax tense muscles, reduce anxiety, and promote overall relaxation. The postpartum period can be physically and emotionally demanding, and massage can provide a nurturing and calming experience, helping new mothers relieve stress and improve their well-being.
Postnatal massage can address common physical discomforts experienced after childbirth, such as soreness, muscle tension, and pain. It can target areas like the back, shoulders, hips, and abdomen, which may have undergone significant strain during pregnancy and labour.
Massage techniques used in postnatal massage can help stimulate blood circulation and lymphatic flow, promoting faster healing and reducing swelling and oedema. It can also help the body eliminate toxins and waste products accumulated during pregnancy and childbirth.
Postnatal massage can assist in regulating hormonal levels that may have fluctuated during pregnancy and childbirth. It can support the normalisation of hormonal balance, helping to alleviate symptoms such as mood swings and postpartum depression.
Pregnancy and childbirth can cause muscle tension and tightness in various areas of the body. Postnatal massage can address these concerns and help release muscle tension, improving flexibility and range of motion.
The postnatal period can bring about a range of emotions, including joy, exhaustion, and anxiety. Postnatal massage offers a safe and supportive space where new mothers can relax, release emotional tension, and receive nurturing touch, fostering emotional well-being and bonding with their newborn.
