Cupping Therapy

  • Fire Cupping

These cups use fire to create a vacuum, they feel weighted and heavy when placed on the body. This is the traditional style of cupping. In remedial massage they are used over any muscles that are tight or causing pain. They improve circulation, and bring in blood to tight sore muscles.

  • Silicone Cups

These silicone cups are soft and mouldable and are great when used in sliding cupping. These can move over sore areas such as the shoulders and neck, and are great for releasing tension through the back. When incorporated into a massage they can greatly reduce pain and tension.

  • Suction Cups

The suction on these cups can be moderated, as you can increase the inverse pressure with a suction gun. These cups can be used anywhere on the body during a massage, and are quite versatile. They can create a strong sensation offering relief from pain. We often use them on the shoulders and back.

frequently asked questions

I have private health insurance, can I claim my rebate at your clinic?

Yes! All massage therapists are registered providers for all the major health funds. We have HICAPS in our Point Cook clinic, so just bring along your health insurance card and we can zip it through the machine and you will only have to pay the gap!

Please note health insurance rebates are available on remedial, pregnancy, MLD and cupping treatments. Relaxation massage services and hot stone massage are not covered.

Is remedial massage painful?

If there is tension in the muscle, then yes it may be painful, but what we call ‘good pain’, this should dissipate once the muscle releases and feel very relieving! Our goal is to help you feel better! You might also be a little sore a day or two after a remedial massage, this is quite normal! Just like the first time you go to the gym, your muscles get sore because you work them out, we work them out in massage too, a tip is to have an epsom salt bath after a massage!

Is it normal to be sore after a massage?

Yes it is quite normal to feel sore for a couple of days after a remedial treatment as the therapist would have worked through the ‘knots’ in your muscles. You may feel sore to move, and may feel sore to touch, just like a bruise. After a couple of days you should be fine and feel even looser.

Ensure you drink extra water after your treatment, take a warm bath (+ epsom salts!) or shower, and use a heat pack anywhere you may feel sore.

I have never had a remedial massage before, what should I expect?

We will sit down and discuss what your reason is for visiting us, what may have caused it, and a little of your health history that may be relevant. Depending on the issue, there may be some assessment, and then we will discuss our treatment plan with you.

For the treatment, it is preferable to undress down to your underwear (you will be covered by a towel), as oil is applied to the skin when working on muscles.

Your therapist will leave the room while you undress, and will ask you to cover yourself with a bath sheet (extra-large towel) and make yourself comfortable on the massage table before they re-enter the room.

Can remedial massage help with back pain?

Yes! That is providing the back pain is due to sore tight muscles. If you are coming in with back pain we won’t just be treating your back, but also your glutes/hips, hamstrings, and quads, as all of these muscles can tighten and lead to back pain.

Can I have a remedial massage when pregnant?

Yes! Pregnancy massage can help with the aches and pains that accompany pregnancy as it relaxes the mind and body. To read more about pregnancy massage, and other massage therapy visit our ‘pregnancy massage’ page.

Can remedial massage help with sciatica?

Unless you have been diagnosed with sciatica due to a herniated disk, narrowing of the spinal canal (spinal stenosis), or bone spurs etc, the pain you are feeling (pain in the glutes than may run down the leg into the foot) could also be due to Piriformis syndrome.

This is where the piriformis muscle becomes tight and compresses the sciatic nerve. Massage can help to release the muscle, therefore reducing compression on the nerve with massage therapy.

Where is your Remedial Massage clinic located?

We offer remedial massage Point Cook, our clinic is located in the Saltwater estate. So just 5 mins from the Point Cook Town centre.

Can remedial massage treat plantar fasciitis?

Yes! This very common cause of heel pain is due to inflammation of the plantar fascia, the thick band of tissue that runs across the bottom of the foot and connects your heel bone to your toes.

Symptoms include a stabbing pain that usually occurs with your first steps when you get out of bed in the morning. After some movement the pain should decrease, then it may return with long periods of sitting or standing.

Plantar fasciitis can be more common in runners, those carrying excess weight, do excessive lower exercise, or shoes that do not sufficiently support the foot.

By working the muscles in the leg, feet and hips, remedial massage therapy may help relieve the pain of plantar fasciitis.

Can remedial massage help with neck pain?

Yes! it does exactly what you need providing the neck pain is caused by tension in the muscles. This may be caused by poor posture, sleeping position, pillow or the ergonomics of your workspace.

Sleeping position: The two best sleeping positions include laying on your back, and laying on your side. When sleeping on your side it is best if you maintain a good posture put a pillow between your knees to keep your hips neutral and cuddle a pillow to keep your shoulders neutral. Also, ensure your pillow is higher under your neck than your head for good sleep and a good mind and body.

Workspace: When working at a desk ensure your computer screen is at eye level (this also includes when you are using your phone), to keep your neck in a neutral position. Use books or an adjustable computer desk riser to achieve the correct height for your line of vision.

Pillow: Memory foam or feather pillows are recommended for the best support of your neck to prevent neck pain.
